Short answer first: Frostrail enters Early Access in Q4 2026 on Windows PC and Xbox on PC. That's weeks away as of this update. Below is everything confirmed about the frostrail early access launch, in FAQ form — no rumors, no speculation.
When Is the Frostrail Release Date?
The frostrail game launches into Early Access in Q4 2026 — the October-to-December window. An exact day and time has not been announced yet. Your best early-warning system is the Steam wishlist: the game already passed 500,000 wishlists in September 2026, and wishlisted accounts get notified the moment the release date and store page go final.
What Platforms Is Frostrail Coming To?
At Early Access launch, Frostrail targets:
- Windows PC (Steam)
- Xbox on PC
Console-native versions, Mac or Linux support have not been announced. Steam currently tags the frostrail game as Action, Adventure and Indie.
How Much Will Frostrail Cost?
No price has been announced. FakeFish and publisher Shiro Unlimited haven't shared Early Access pricing yet. Given the studio's track record with Barotrauma (3M+ copies sold), Early Access pricing will likely be announced close to launch — wishlist the game rather than guessing.
Can I Play Frostrail Before Early Access?
Yes — but not for long. A free demo is live on Steam during October Next Fest, October 19–26, 2026, letting you drive the train, fight Revenants and explore 3 regions. The demo ends October 26. Our demo guide covers everything inside it.

What Has Testing Looked Like So Far?
The road to Early Access has been unusually open:
- November 2025 — small-scale playtest.
- April 16 – May 4, 2026 — closed playtest, 100,000+ sign-ups.
- August 31 – September 7, 2026 — Closed Beta with 70,000+ participants and no NDA, so footage and impressions were shared freely.
That feedback already changed the game: a tutorial level, cross-level progression, levels with multiple exits, a bigger tundra biome, and an obstacle-clearing train defense mode all arrived after the Closed Beta. Expect the Early Access roadmap to keep evolving the same way.
Is Frostrail Co-op?
Yes. The frostrail game supports 1–4 player online co-op as well as solo play. Crew size doesn't change the world much, but it changes the workload: driving, stoking the boiler with charcoal and fuel, looting and guarding all scale better with friends.
